Course Overview

This course is designed to provide you with foundational information regarding the nervous system. Course elements include The Cells of the Nervous System, Nerves and their Highways, The Brain and Spinal Cord (Central Nervous System), and the Peripheral Nervous System. This course integrates depth and comprehensive breadth of knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of all human systems.

Course Objectives

  • Name the divisions of the nervous system and state the general functions of each.
  • Describe the electrical nerve impulse and impulse transmission at the synapse.
  • Describe the types of neurons, nerves, and nerve tracts.
  • State the functions of the parts of the brain and locate each part on a diagram.
  • Be able to name the cranial nerves and state their function.
  • Explain the function of the sympathetic and parasympathetic divisions of the nervous system.
  • Explain the general purpose of sensations.
